4-H Positive Youth Development
Chippewa County 4-H Youth Development fosters leadership, citizenship, and life skills through hands-on learning and community involvement. We help youth explore their passions and build a bright future through experiential learning, youth empowerment, and career and college readiness, ensuring they thrive and are beyond ready for the future.
Welcome to Chippewa County 4-H!
4-H is a national program that helps young people develop leadership, citizenship, and life skills. Since 1915, Chippewa County 4-H has offered hands-on learning, leadership opportunities, and community involvement.
As a program of University of Wisconsin’s Division of Extension Institute of Positive Youth Development, Chippewa County 4-H connects local youth to the largest youth development organization in the country. Through clubs, camps, local youth in governance and after-school programs, members discover their passions and build skills like problem-solving, decision-making, and healthy living.
Based on the four H’s—Head, Heart, Hands, and Health—4-H’s project-based learning lets youth explore their interests in science, the arts, or community service through “learn by doing” experiences. Many start in local clubs, gaining leadership and teamwork skills while making a positive impact.
Chippewa County 4-H empowers and inspires youth through experiential learning and career readiness, helping them build confidence and practical knowledge for future success.

Chippewa County 4-H Leaders Association
The purpose of Leaders Inc. and the Leader’s Council is to provide a countywide forum for 4-H youth and adult volunteer leaders to discuss ideas and offer input to enhance 4-H programming at both the county and local levels. They advocate for and promote Chippewa County 4-H, provide input and conduct county-wide programs for youth, raise funds and manage a yearly budget to support 4-H programming across the county, recognize the achievements of 4-H members and volunteers through a meaningful awards program at the county level, and positively represent 4-H to the greater community at local, county, state, and federal levels.

Join the Movement: How You Can Participate
4-H is a hands-on learning program for youth, offering activities online, in small groups, in-person and independently. Kids get to dive into projects they love, like science, agriculture, or art, with the guidance of supportive adults who help them build leadership and life skills. Through our programming, we aim to meet youth where they are and understand that barriers may exist. We offer different ways for youth to participate in our programming through clubs, community and county events, and partnership development.
Find a Community Club or Single Project Club
Most families start with a 4-H club, which meets in schools or community centers. Clubs provide fun, friendship, and learning opportunities, focusing on belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. Most kids in 4-H join a local community club or a single project club. These clubs provide small-group learning led by friendly adult volunteers who are trained and supported by the University of Wisconsin staff. Club members meet regularly to learn together and help each other explore their goals, interests, and passions.Led by volunteers or educators, clubs offer youth-directed activities, including camps, workshops, and projects. 4-H clubs are the heart of Wisconsin 4-H, helping youth thrive while having fun!
Participate in a Classroom Club or Afterschool Program
With the addition of our Wisconsin 4-H AmeriCorps Member, we’re teaming up with local schools and youth-serving organizations to bring 4-H opportunities to kids in our community. If you’re interested in starting a classroom or afterschool club, please get in touch with our office. Our Afterschool and Classroom clubs are designed for members of a class or afterschool program and may have specific rules and guidelines for participation.
County Events and Activities
Our county events are open to non-4-H members, though non-members may sometimes have a higher cost to participate in certain programs. This is to cover the cost of added insurance needs, program supplies, etc. However, we aim to grow our program by supporting youth who are interested in trying 4-H. If you have questions about non-member participation, please reach out to Jordan at jordan.blue@wisc.edu.
Serve as a Volunteer
Volunteers are the backbone of our 4-H programs. Whether you have a few hours a week or just a few days a year, your time and skills can make a big difference. We offer various volunteer roles, from leading clubs and teaching workshops to helping with events and mentoring youth. If you’re passionate about making a positive impact in your community and are 18 years old or older, consider joining us as a volunteer. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting youth learning and leadership in 4-H.
