4-H Positive Youth Development

Welcome to Chippewa County 4-H Positive Youth Development
Chippewa County 4-H fosters leadership, citizenship, and life skills through hands-on learning and community involvement. We help youth explore their passions and prepare for the future through experiential learning, youth empowerment, and career readiness.
As part of Extension’s Positive Youth Development Institute, we place youth leadership—supported by caring adults, 4-H clubs, and community partners—at the heart of everything we do, ensuring Wisconsin youth and their communities thrive.
4-H is a national program that helps young people develop leadership, citizenship, and life skills. Since 1915, Chippewa County 4-H has offered hands-on learning, leadership opportunities, and community involvement.
As a program of University of Wisconsin’s Division of Extension Institute of Positive Youth Development, Chippewa County 4-H connects local youth to the largest youth development organization in the country. Through clubs, camps, local youth in governance and after-school programs, members discover their passions and build skills like problem-solving, decision-making, and healthy living.
Based on the four H’s—Head, Heart, Hands, and Health—4-H’s project-based learning lets youth explore their interests in science, the arts, or community service through “learn by doing” experiences. Many start in local clubs, gaining leadership and teamwork skills while making a positive impact.
Chippewa County 4-H empowers and inspires youth through experiential learning and career readiness, helping them build confidence and practical knowledge for future success.

Ways to Get Involved
4-H is a hands-on learning program for youth, offering activities online, in small groups, in-person and independently. Kids get to dive into projects they love, like science, agriculture, or art, with the guidance of supportive adults who help them build leadership and life skills. Through our programming, we aim to meet youth where they are and understand that barriers may exist. We offer different ways for youth to participate in our programming through clubs, community and county events, and partnership development.
Find a Community Club or Single Project Club
Most families start with a 4-H club, which meets in schools or community centers. Clubs provide fun, friendship, and learning opportunities, focusing on belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. Most kids in 4-H join a local community club or a single project club. These clubs provide small-group learning led by friendly adult volunteers who are trained and supported by the University of Wisconsin staff. Club members meet regularly to learn together and help each other explore their goals, interests, and passions.Led by volunteers or educators, clubs offer youth-directed activities, including camps, workshops, and projects. 4-H clubs are the heart of Wisconsin 4-H, helping youth thrive while having fun!
Participate in a Classroom Club or Afterschool Program
With the support of our Wisconsin 4-H AmeriCorps Member, we’re partnering with local schools and youth-serving organizations to bring positive youth development to more kids in Chippewa County. Interested in starting a classroom or afterschool 4-H club? Connect with our 4-H Positive Youth Development team to learn more! These clubs are designed for students within a class or afterschool program and may include specific participation guidelines.
County Events and Activities
Many county events are open to youth who aren’t yet 4-H members. In some cases, non-members may pay a slightly higher fee to cover insurance and program supplies. We love supporting youth who want to explore 4-H! If you have questions about participating as a non-member, contact Jordan at jordan.blue@wisc.edu.
