4-H Positive Youth Development

What is 4-H?

4-H is a national program that helps young people develop leadership, citizenship, and life skills. Since 1915, Chippewa County 4-H has offered hands-on learning, leadership opportunities, and community involvement.

As part of the University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension’s Institute of Positive Youth Development, Chippewa County 4-H connects local youth to the largest youth development organization in the country.

How 4-H Works

Through clubs, camps, youth leadership opportunities, governance, and school programming, young people discover their passions and build skills such as: Problem solving, decision making, leadership, and healthy living

Learn by Doing

Based on the four H’s: Head, Heart, Hands, and Health; 4‑H uses a “learn by doing” approach that allows youth to explore interests in science, the arts, and community service.

Ways to Get Involved

Many county events are open to youth who aren’t yet 4-H members. In some cases, non-members may pay a slightly higher fee to cover insurance and program supplies. We love supporting youth who want to explore 4-H! If you have questions about participating as a non-member, contact Jordan at jordan.blue@wisc.edu. Check out our ‘Events, News & Activities‘ section to see what’s coming up and who can join!
