Pesticide Private Applicator Training and Testing (PAT)
ATTENTION – Private Pesticide Applicator
Certification is required to purchase and use restricted use pesticides. Private certification is not intended for commercial applicators. Certification programs include three hours of instruction and administration of the test, provided by the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Permits issued are valid for five years.

Due to changes in Extension staffing capacity across the state, the Pesticide Applicator Training Program has changed its process on how to apply to become certified/ recertified.
Manuals
Pesticide Applicator Training manuals are now only available through either mail order or online from the UW Pesticide Applicator Training Program.

Training
- If applicators would like to attend an in-person training, those are now also all being conducted by the UW PAT Program. They can visit the UW Extension events calendar (https://fyi.extension.wisc.edu/pat/events/) to register.
- Alternatively, follow link and scroll to Chippewa County to select class (https://patstore.wisc.edu/secure/collection/private/45). Listings are in alphabetical order based on county.
- If applicators would like to attend an online training, registration is also on the UW PAT Store (https://go.wisc.edu/greo5e).
- If applicators would like the self-study option (must get a 70% on exam), tests are being provided at select county Extension offices. They can visit the UW PAT Program website (https://fyi.extension.wisc.edu/pat/county-testing-sites/) for the full list of participating counties. Extension Chippewa County is providing exams by appointment only. Please contact us at 715-726-7950 to schedule.
