Chippewa County 4-H youth are being offered a chance to learn the basics of rifle shooting, firearm safety, and the fun of Olympic-style marksmanship.  We will offer the “4-H Basic Rifle Shooting Course”, using match grade pellet rifles to teach gun handling safety and shooting fundamentals.  This will be done on a standard indoor air rifle range.

The course will begin Saturday, February 15th, 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., followed by Friday night classes and practices on February 21st and 28th, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.  In March and April, the program will include 6 additional practices, a change to compete in Olympic style shooting tournaments and conclude with an awards program on Sunday, April 26th, when 4-H “Basic Rifle Certificates” and shooting awards will be presented.

This course is based around marksmanship and gun handling skills.  It is NOT a DNR Hunter’s Safety Course.  It is an opportunity for youth to learn rifle marksmanship and safety skills.  It is a chance for youth to try competitive shooting.

Participants must be at least 8 years old AND in 3rd grade.  The Shooting Sports Committee will supply competition quality air rifles for the course OR you may purchase one from then at a reduced rate.  Participation fees are $20.00 per youth to cover program costs/ammunition.  Registration is due to the Chippewa County Extension Office by February 7, 2020.

NOTE:  The 4-H Basic Rifle Course is REQUIRED FOR NEW SHOOTERS to the program.  If you have not completed the Basic Rifle Course, you will NOT be able to participate in the 2020 activities.  Parents are strongly encouraged to attend since much information is given out at the course, including the calendar of practices and shooting competitions.

All returning shooters:  If you have taken our Basic Rifle Workshop in the past you NEED to attend the introductory meeting on the drill floor of the Armory on Saturday, February 15th.
